SAFEGUARDING

As community leaders, we recognise our responsibility extends beyond those directly under our care. Keeping vulnerable people safe is our top priority.

Our officers recognise and swiftly respond to safeguarding issues, whether in the public, on site, or within our teams.

We are vigilant to any inappropriate or suspicious behaviour and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to any such incidents.

Our teams are approachable, friendly, and compassionate, helping the people we support to feel confident telling us about any questions or concerns they may have.

The DSS Operational Requirements procedure ensures that we are able to anticipate risk and deploy the right team in every situation.

All DSS Officers undergo a rigorous security screening (BS7858) prior to employment, which includes an Enhanced DBS check.

DSS OFFICERS TAKE SAFEGUARDING SERIOUSLY

DSS Officers understand their responsibilities when supporting young people and the unique risks posed to their wellbeing.

We will always communicate appropriately and clearly with young people, parents, and guardians, and act on their best interests.

WORKING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE

Altered functioning due to alcohol and other substances presents high risk to the intoxicated individual.

DSS Officers go above and beyond to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time.

We are proactive in supporting anyone who may be at risk.

At DSS staffed events, every effort is made to ensure attendees find their way home safely. This may involve:

  • Escorting lone attendees to appropriate transport

  • High visibility officers positioned between the event site and public transport hubs

  • Using local knowledge and company supplied technology to give directions and travel advice.

SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN ALTERED MENTAL STATES

As discussion of mental health continues to grow in the security industry and wider society, DSS stays ahead of the curve.

DSS Officers are trained to de-escalate, listen, and engage with empathy and compassion. Officers understand when further intervention may be required, and can liaise clearly and calmly with emergency services.

We understand that mental health needs are a part of being human.

We foster a supportive and non-judgemental environment within our teams, and respond to mental health needs with open-mindedness and flexibility.

Our management teams are trained in specialised tools for discussing and understanding mental health in the security industry, and we aim to enrol all Officers in Mental Health First Aid courses.
