MEET THE TEAM

Carl Dakin is a military veteran with 25 years of military service behind him and over a decade of commercial experience working with clients across a variety of industry sectors including corporate, tech and live events. Carl is known in the security industry for his consulting services but in June 2020 he was asked by a client if he could manage the delivery of security officer services at its London facility, and so the DSS story begins. Drawing on the values and standards that have been developed through military service, a keen eye for detail and a focus on exceptional customer service and value for money, members of the DSS team are hand-picked for their personal qualities. Carl believes that skills can be developed, and time served does not necessarily translate to quality operatives, which is why he develops his management team in-house and insists on recognised qualifications for all team leaders and site managers. His vision is for DSS to become ‘best in class’ at providing exceptional security officer services to discerning clients. A bit more about Carl – his consulting work has enabled him to develop a deep understanding of protective security design, implementation and management. At the design end of the operation, he is currently engaged as a Suitably Qualified Security Specialist to undertake security needs assessments as part of the BREEAM 1 HEA 06 new construction process. He manages the testing and security capability programme at a large-scale multi- use corporate site in London and he regularly reviews the security operation at a range of different client sites worldwide. Carl has a Foundation Degree in Protective Security Management, Master’s Degree in Business Continuity, Security & Emergency Management, Level 5 Certificate in Work Based Learning, as well as a suite of relevant vocational qualifications in health & safety, and crowd management. He is a Chartered Security Professional – admitted to the Register in 2017 and currently has oversight of the Chartered Security Professional assessment process as a Deputy Registrar of the Chartered Security Professional Registration Authority. He is a Fellow of the Security Institute and was a member of the Board of Directors for six years, during which time he was the sponsoring director of the Protest & Activism Special Interest Group (SIG), Protecting People in Crowded Places SIG and remains a member of the Counter Terrorism and the Built Environment SIGs.
